The Bishop’s House Bed and Breakfast offers an atmosphere of warmth, serenity and elegance.
Located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the house is situated on a large landscaped, shaded lot on a tree lined street among other stately homes in Easton’s Historic District. The Bishop’s House is ideally suited for a quiet break and a romantic getaway. Our guest amenities include on site private off-street parking, complimentary high speed wireless (also available on our wrap-around porch and courtyard), Cable TV, DVD, mini fridge, & individually controlled heat and air conditioning, and baths with multi-jet shower panels and whirlpool tubs. Two guest rooms have king size beds and working fireplaces and two have queen size beds. For those guests who wish to cycle the area, we offer secured overnight bicycle storage, cycling maps, and complimentary bicycle use (reservations recommended).
Breakfast: Guests rave about our sumptuous breakfasts featuring our own recipes. Our full hot breakfast, is served at 9 AM each morning in the spacious first floor Dining Room. Entrees are prepared daily with specific attention to guest’s dietary restrictions, such as vegan, vegetarian and gluten free. Our breakfasts consist of a choice of eight fruit juices, individual fruit platters or fruit cup, fresh oven-baked muffins, bread or scones, breakfast meat, a “specialty egg dish,” and a special entree such as Puffed Blueberry Pancakes, our special French Toast, or Banana Flavored Belgium Waffles. We also offer coffee and a choice of a variety of teas or hot chocolate. The dining room features a 14 foot ceiling, ceiling medallion, plaster molding, faux finished mantel, and a painted ceiling depicting the four seasons with stag motif.
Reservations are required for all stays. A two-night minimum stay, per guest room, is required year round with a three-night minimum stay required for the Labor Day, and Columbus Day Weekends.
Amenities: Our Garden Courtyard with Fish Pond and Fountain is an oasis of tranquility for afternoon or evening rest and relaxation. The gardens have a wide variety of flora and fauna for attracting honey bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. The antics of resident birds and squirrels provide added entertainment.
The Bishop’s House common areas and guest room accommodations were lovingly restored with period details such as plaster moldings, ceiling medallions, and faux finished fireplaces. Antique furnishings are complemented with modern conveniences while maintaining the 1880 historic fabric typical of Victorian homes. The Bishop’s House offers the attention to detail and amenities found only in the very finest accommodations.
The porch swing and rockers on the wraparound porch offer perfect outdoor locations for repose with fellow guests or traveling companions. Our guests may also relax in our comfortably furnished first floor drawing rooms, both of which contain gas log fireplaces and an eclectic selection of books, games, and Victorian era amusements.
The large first floor Drawing Room affords our guests the opportunity to engage in quiet conversation, listen to music, read, or explore the history of the Bishop’s House. We also provide a comprehensive set of sample menus for local restaurants.
The small first floor Drawing Room contains a Cable TV, Telephone, and Computer for guest use.
Our guests may also use the Third Floor Sitting Room. The sitting room has a Cable TV; a DVD, VCR, video players; DVD Library; microwave oven, refrigerator, coffee maker, ice maker, and wine cooler. The sitting room is also stocked with complimentary coffee, a selection of teas, hot chocolate, sodas, and snacks for our guests.
While on your Maryland vacation at the Bishop’s House, there are many things to see and do in the area. We have listed some of them, and prepared a 5+ Day Itinerary, as a resource for planning a visit to Talbot County and the Delmarva Peninsula.
Explore the countryside on Bishop’s House bicycles. Complimentary bicycle use is available to our guests for half/full days complete with chain, lock, and cycling helmets (reserve bikes when making your reservation). We also provide our guests with route maps for cycling in Talbot County. Secured overnight storage is also available for our guests, in the event that you choose to bring your own. The local near flat to flat terrain is very popular with first time as well as experienced cyclists. Routes may be chosen ranging from 10 to 60 miles through the scenic and picturesque area. The most frequently traveled bike route is the Tred Avon Circle which provides a full day adventure. The Tred Avon Circle takes you through the quaint historic town of Oxford; across the Tred Avon River on the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry; through the village of Royal Oak on to St. Michaels, the home of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, and back across Oak Creek Bridge to Easton.
Special Occasions and Events – the Bishop’s House is the perfect place for a honeymoon or romantic getaway on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Gift certificates are available for stays of two or more nights. Some companies have found the Bishop’s House exactly right for small seminars, management retreats, and business travel stays. The total amount due for a two night stay at the Bishop’s House is $572.00, which is inclusive of the 6% Maryland State Tax and the 4% Talbot County Accommodations Tax. Personal checks, (drawn in US Dollars on a US Bank), travelers checks, postal money orders, (domestic and international), cash, and credit cards will be accepted for the purchase of Gift Certificates.
Regrettably, the Bishop’s House is unable to accommodate children under 12 years of age. No pets, please. The Bishop’s House is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is permitted outside only.
We will accommodate guests on an overnight basis, but payment for a two-night stay (three-night stay for holiday & special event weekends) is required.
